What Your Student Heard in Advisory Group on Monday

Heads up, artists of Steller! Yearbook is hosting an awesome new design contest, where your artwork can be used as the cover of next year’s yearbook. If you are a Steller student with a talent for art, take part in this great opportunity. Voting will be done by the yearbook staff, and if your cover is chosen you will receive a FREE yearbook, complete with your winning cover art.  If you are serious about creating original artwork for all of the Steller community to see, please contact Svetlana about further details.

Junior class meeting Tuesday, Sept 11, at 12 in Ken’s!

Airport Heights Elementary is looking for Steller student’s to help tutor their gifted 6th grade math student’s in Pre-Algebra.  They are looking for volunteers during our 7th hour.  Excellent volunteer opportunity, see Jen if you are interested.

Sailing students: Remember we are meeting on Wednesday at noon in Leigh Anne’s room.

Wishing to volunteer more, but just don’t have the time?  Do you also like to be active and try new things?  Then Jen’s California Service Intensive might just be for you.  During this May intensive you will do activities like Kayaking and backpacking, while also volunteering in national parks and marine wildlife centers.  At the end of the intensive you will have accumulated aver 20 hours of community service!  Find out more at the meeting in Jen’s room this Wednesday at noon.

Anyone already signed up for Jen’s California Service Intensive also needs to attend this Wednesday’s meeting.

Students who are 11 – 13 years old are invited to design a poster for a Lions Club “Imagine Peace” poster contest. Two winners will be chosen from Steller student submissions to win $100 and $50 bonds. The fist place winner’s design will go on to state, and possibly national and international levels of competition.  This is a great opportunity for middle school students to use their original ideas to make art with a lasting impact.  All interested students can find out more by coming to a lunch meeting in Chris’s Room on Tuesday.

Each year the Alaska Commission on Postsecondary Education seeks out students from around the state to include in the statewide middle school newspaper, What’s Your Story?  This paper includes photos and career dreams of middle school students from all around Alaska. Students need only fill out a quick form identifying their career goals and basic contact and school information! Then parents need to sign for approval and they can send in a cool, non-professional photo of themselves.  For more information talk to your advisor or Dale.

I (Dale) appreciate all the feedback from students on solutions to stop drug use in school.  The next step is to take action.  Wednesday at lunch, there will be a meeting in the MPR to discuss what you, as a student body, are willing to do.  I look forward to seeing you there.
