Congratulations Atelier Art Students!

The first assignment of the year for both year 1 and year 2 students of the Atelier was to prepare a self-portrait for UAA’s No Big Heads Self-Portrait Exhibition.  167 pieces from professional artists and college students were submitted to this Juried International competition.  Only 44 were selected by Guest Juror Candy Chang, professional artist, to be exhibited.  Of those 44, 4 Steller Atelier students were chosen to be featured in this exhibition for the implication of their pieces and the hard work that resulted in the good craftsmanship of their drawing and painting.  These 4 students include:

Erica S (7th grade), a delicate drawing of a 3/4 profile using graphite on paper

Annie T (10th grade), Suspended, a well executed traditional grisaille painting cropped and suspended by burlap cord from a rough piece of wood

Gabrielle S (10th grade), Computer Land, a rich, intensely painted dramatic portrait reminiscent of the great 17th century Golden Age Dutch painter Rembrandt.

Emily A (11th grade), Discord, a dramatic, high contrast drawing utilizing both hard and water-saturated graphite

Again, congratulations, for this was an international show featuring the work of professional artists and college students.  Feel free to take a look at the show, which will be up for display in the Student Union Building on the UAA main campus until November 15th.
