Tuesday, September 14, 2021 (6:00 to 7:30) – Steller Parent Group Meeting
Steller Parent Group is committed to doing everything we can to support the safety and wellbeing of our community in light of COVID 19. Here is the messaging from the board as of July 31st:
1. Universal masking will be required for all individuals while inside any ASD school or building. Some exceptions will apply. Masking while outside is optional.
2. Keep ASD Symptom Free. We must all do our part to minimize viral spread. Please stay home and get tested if you are experiencing ANY symptoms.
3. Cleaning and Disinfecting. Regular cleaning of classrooms, buses, and offices will continue. Hand sanitizer will be readily available and frequent handwashing will be encouraged. Enhancements and upgrades have been made to building HVAC systems to allow for optimal ventilation and air exchange.
4. Keeping students and staff in the learning environment. The District will continue to make COVID-19 vaccine clinics available to eligible students (with parental consent), staff, and community members through a contracted provider. Additionally, following new guidance from the CDC, asymptomatic, properly masked students and fully vaccinated individuals will not be required to quarantine if deemed a close contact.
As things are constantly changing we will provide an update on exact practice for the BBQ closer to the date. If you have questions or concerns please feel free to contact the school.

The Anchorage-based nonprofit Alaska Seeds of Change is looking to hold an interactive summer gardening program to teach youth about how to start, grow, and maintain fresh and local Alaskan produce. A special focus this year will be developing leadership skills.
Workshops will be every Tuesday and Thursday 12:00 to 1:30 starting May 25.

Join us for the last meeting of the year for Steller Parent Group. Meet our new principal Maria Hernandez, vote on a request for funding from Seeds of Change to support the Steller Garden, and hear a review of all we have achieved this year. This will also be a chance to recognize Reed for all the work he has done for Steller during his years of service, and to wish him well on his new adventures.
We would also like you to consider joining the SPG next year. There are many ways to get involved with a range of time commitments. We are looking forward to being in person next year and continuing to build a strong community.

The Citywide Cleanup “Super Sweeper†Program is a great way to teach kids the importance of keeping our community clean, and it’s also a lot of fun. Jointly coordinated by the Anchorage School District and the Anchorage Chamber of Commerce, the Super Sweeper Program challenges elementary, middle, and high schools to get together to clean trash around their school and in their neighbourhood.
We will be collecting the following to support Covenant House:
Super Sweeper Family Event Flyer
National Honor Society Will be Selling Masks to support Bean’s Cafe.
SPG will supply orange trash-bags, an area map, and juice boxes and cookies.
*Adults may consider bringing a medical sharps container designed for needle collection, available at some pharmacies, or thick plastic jugs for detergent, kitty litter or shampoo (water bottles are too thin and can be punctured.)

Hello Steller families,
The Steller National Honor Society will be hosting a food drive from 4/19-5/7 2021.
It is a competitive event. Students attending in person school will drop food off in their first hour/ first class of the day at Steller. For students attending virtually there will be drop off days on Wednesday afternoons!
This will be on a point system. You can download a PDF of the preferred foods here. We choose a point system to promote donations of items the food-bank is in great need of right now. This point system is not to discourage families from donating whatever they can. All items donated will be worth some points.

The Steller Reflection Committee has been created to allow staff, students and parents the opportunity to reflect on where we have been, and what we appreciate about Steller.
We will meet two times, each for 90 minutes via Zoom. The first meeting is on Monday, April 12 from 6:30 to 8:00pm and the second meeting is on Monday, April 19 6:30 to 8:00pm.
As always, we want to hear the voices of each of our pillars and invite anyone interested to please join us and help make the discussion richer.
