  1. Website/Steller Flash updates will appear on the SPG website. Students, staff, and parents/guardians can SUBSCRIBE to receive updates directly in your inbox. All requests for volunteers will be posted on the website/sent out through Flash, so it is important for families to subscribe!
  2. Steller Secondary Parent Group is a closed Facebook Group created to promote communication between current parents/guardians, teachers, and staff for organizing school activities, announcements, questions, and keeping up with everything that is going on. Feel free to jump in with questions or posts.  Join the Steller Secondary Parent Group Facebook Group
  3. Steller Secondary Page is an open Facebook page visible to the public. If you are a Steller Alumni and want to stay informed about special activities, fundraisers, and student highlights. Follow the Facebook Page

Support our Steller Prom Committee!

Steller Prom Committee has been working hard all year to plan and fundraise for a great event for our students, and to show our support for their hard work we are collecting donations.

As always, any student who would like to attend a Steller event, but costs are prohibitive, can contact the Steller Office and funds are available. This year we are also inviting the Steller community to make an additional donation to help reduce the overall price of tickets for all students. If we raise $1500 we can reduce the cost to just $25.00 per ticket!

Donating is easy – just click on the DONATE button here,

and send a quick email to our treasurer stellerpg@gmail.com saying the amount you donated so we can keep track!

Steller is the Place to Be!

We all know Steller is a great place to learn – help us get the word out! Encourage your friends and neighbours to come to our Ice Cream Social on Wednesday, February 15, from 6:00 to 7:30pm.

It would be great if you could download our poster and pamphlet below and share on social media, or where ever there are kids and parents.

If you have a connection to an elementary school in Anchorage and would be willing to reach out to their administration or PTA let us know. Having a personal recommendation is such a powerful testament.

Volunteers for Valentine’s Dance and Prom!!

Steller dances are one of my favorite volunteer opportunities! It’s a great way to get an inside peek at the Steller Way in action.

Steller’s 9th grade class will be hosting a Valentine’s Dance on Friday, February 10th from 7-11pm at the Steller MPR. The dance is open to all Steller students. We are in need of 4 volunteers for the dance from 6:45pm-11:15pm. For questions contact Ashley.

Steller Prom Committee is also looking for some volunteer help! For questions contact Allison.

Check out the Sign Up Genius here.

(Don’t forget – ASD requires all volunteers to complete the ASD Volunteer Application before they can volunteer, and it takes about a week. See here for more information

Cheers,

Kirsten

SPG is hoping to meet our fundraising goal for 2022-2023 of $30,000.  (Currently our draft budget has expenses of $17,000.)

In order to allocate more funding to intensives, additional student programs, and to make travel intensives accessible for all families, regardless of ability to pay, SPG needs more than $17,000 to increase our budget.  Help us make these exciting programs a reality!

Thank you, Steller Community, for your continued support of our amazing students!

P.S. don’t forget that many companies match donations.  Does yours?

Steller Auction Committee Needs You!

Steller Parent Group is very excited to be planning our first major fundraising event since January of 2020!

We have been operating on funds raised at that event since then, and our account is in need of replenishing! The tentative plan is to host an evening event with drinks and appetizers, and featuring a silent and live auction of items donated from Anchorage businesses and the Steller community.

We need a strong group of dedicated members of our community to help with the following:

  • Co-chair or chair (we have one person willing to lead who would like a co-chair)
  • Treasurer
  • Graphics and Communication
  • Donation Procurement
  • Auction Software Expert
  • Basket Creation
  • Decorations
  • Volunteer Coordinator

If you have experience in any of these, or want to learn, we would love to hear from you! Planning an event like this is lots of hard work, but is also lots of fun, and so rewarding. Email Kirsten at StellerAuctionChair@gmail.com .

Funds raised from the Auction are used by SPG to pay for the following:

  • Grants (Intensives, Travel Intensives, Program Support, Student and Staff requests)
  • School hosted events (like Aurora music festival and sophomore breakfast)
  • SPG hosted events (like Steller BBQ and All Community Meetings)
  • SPG operational costs (insurance, website domain etc)

Welcome Message from Steller Parent Group

August 25, 2022

Dear Steller Families,

Steller Parent Group wants to extend a warm welcome to all new and returning Steller families.

The Steller Parent Group is an integral part of the Steller Community.  We meet on the second Tuesday of every month from 6:00pm to 7:30pm in person and on Zoom.  Every member of the Steller Community – Staff, Students and Parents/Guardians are automatically part of SPG and welcome to attend, ask questions and share their ideas.  We would love to see you at our first meeting on Tuesday, September 13 at 6:00pm. We hope to have both an in person option and Zoom.

Steller Parent Group is one of the three Pillars of our school: Staff – Students –  Parents/Guardians. The purpose of the SPG is to enrich the lives of Steller students through the financial support and leadership of active parents and guardians. We strive to promote parent and guardian involvement in school activities. Traditionally we host events during the school year, raise funds to support school initiatives through the Steller Auction, and coordinate volunteers.

All of this takes the hard work and dedication of our community members and we want to invite you to get involved by taking on a formal position in the board, or simply actively attending our meetings. We are currently recruiting for a variety of positions.

Participating in the SPG has many benefits, including the opportunity to make connections with other parents and staff, and the opportunity to effectively make positive change. We all want the very best education and experiences for our children, and when we work together we can make it happen.

If you are interested in learning more about SPG positions please let us know, and as always, we welcome your thoughts and ideas about how Steller Parent Group can serve you.

Warm regards,

Kirsten Tschofen
