Congratulations to Senior Lucca D for Your Passage Project!

Last January, Lucca Duke began a community service passage that incorporated her artistic abilities and interest in working with children. Lucca’s original passage goals were to paint a mural at Rogers Park Elementary with a map of the Iditarod trail that teachers could use to teach about the Iditarod, and to assist the art teacher in an after-school art program. Lucca was designing and painting her mural and coordinating with the art teacher for a spring after-school program when the pandemic hit and she lost all access to the school and her passage. Luckily, Lucca was eager to finish her passage this semester and created a beautiful mural for the Rogers Park Elementary community. Lucca had to work through many challenges from coordinating with different teachers at Rogers Park, finding a safe time to work at the school, and figuring out how to incorporate her artistic vision with the needs of the teachers, beyond the regular challenges of the pandemic.

Lucca’s persistence paid off in the form of a beautiful mural and an appreciative staff at Rogers Park. Among many other compliments, Lucca received this praise from a Rogers Park teacher: “Just as wonderful is the fact that you, “one of our own” (ex-Rogers Park Elementary student), has given back to your neighborhood school/community! In addition to your excellent artistic talents, you have demonstrated responsibility, perseverance, and commitment to a real-life project.”

Thank you, Lucca, for representing Steller so well! Congratulations on a wonderful Passage.

Students are welcome to share their Passage projects with the community.  You can submit images, text and short videos via email.  We encourage everyone to check the “Student Showcase” tab on the website regularly.

ESports Registration on Now!

Steller high school students, it has been announced that Esports for the spring is on!

There are two games that will be supported: Madden 21 and FIFA 21. Are you a player of either? Do you want to learn? Games will be played on PS4’s which the district has purchased for our school. I do not know all the details yet, but if you are interested, please send me an email.

Our team needs to register by Tuesday, January 19 (there is a later registration deadline as well) to get in on all the action, and I need to make sure we have enough players. Please send an email to collins_jason@asdk12.org if interested. I will also hold a zoom meeting to go over any questions and what I know on Tuesday at 1:45pm. Here is the link: Talk soon!

We are currently looking for help managing the Student Directory.  This would take less than an hour a month.

It’s also time to start thinking about transitioning to the new board next year.  Becoming a co-chair, co-treasurer or co-secretary now would be an easy way to learn more about the position, without the responsibilities.

If you are interested in learning more about SPG positions please let us know.

SPG wants to make sure that we are reaching as many members of our community with up to date and relevant information as possible.  We have four ways we communicate with you:

  1. Website/Steller Flash updates appear on the SPG website or parents, students and staff can SUBSCRIBE to receive updates directly in your inbox.
  2. Steller Secondary Parent Group is a closed Facebook Group created to promote communication between current parents, teachers and staff for organising school activities, announcements, questions, and keeping up with everything that is going on. Feel free to jump in with questions or posts.
  3. Steller Secondary Page is an open page visible to the public. If you are a Steller Alumni and want to stay informed about special activities, fundraisers and student highlights we encourage you to follow our page.
  4. Student Directory is a new online directory for parents, students and staff to be able to contact each other directly. You must create an account and add your information using the access code CGYJAU when prompted. Add the information for each student and then download the app to be able to access contact information from anywhere.

We also encourage all community members to follow OpGroup’s Instagram account at

instagram.com/steller_s_official.

Warm regards,

*Please note the SPG website/Flash is meant to complement the district website asdk12.org/steller.  For official communication from the school and district please visit Q to update your contact information and settings to receive their communications via email, text or call.

Voting for Senior Superlatives!

This year’s Yearbook will include a page for Senior Superlatives and Steller students grade 9 to 12 are invited to vote!

Please vote for who you think is “Most Likely to Kickstart a Multimillion-Dollar Company” or “Most likely to survive the Hunger Games” and more!

Steller high schoolers are welcome to participate. All the superlatives are optional in case you can’t think of someone for that category. Even if you only know one senior that could be “Best Gamer,” you should cast your vote!

The final results will end up in this year’s yearbook. Click this link to access the form: https://forms.gle/Qce43oEM7UTg29oY6

Thank you so much!
