Passages Information
A quick introduction
The Passage program is an essential part of Steller’s curriculum and is a requirement for all students to graduate. This repeatable semester general elective credit course provides enrichment activities for high school students who are interested in expanding their understanding in an area of personal academic interest. During their time at Steller, high school students are required to complete three Passages or Passage Alternatives through experience such as Seminar coaching, gifted mentorships, peer teaching, etc. There are six types of Passages: adventure, career exploration, community involvement, logical inquiry, practical skills, and creativity. For each Passage, students develop a proposal of what they want to accomplish, how they will meet their goals, and how they will document their journey. They share their progress and successes with peers, the teacher of record (their advisor) and the Steller community.
What happened to Passages in the schedule?
In the past, Passages has been offered a couple of times in the regular schedule. This year, in order to provide more elective choices, Passages can be taken any period and the Advisor will be the teacher of record. Teacher meetings will be held once a week, mainly during 7th hour, at a scheduled time and day. Committee (triad) meetings will be held in Advisory.
How do I register for a Passage?
Students will sign up to take a Passage with their Advisor, but will also sign up for a period they will be working on their Passage during a teacher’s conference hour. This might be with their Advisor, but could be with another teacher. That teacher will just be responsible for taking attendance.

Join the Steller Directory!
Each year the Steller Parent Group maintains a directory of parents, students, and Steller staff to help aid in communication, event coordination, and planning of Steller activities. This is an opt-in directory, and we highly encourage you to join. Returning parents will only need to confirm their information once at the beginning of each school year, saving time from re-entry. Follow the link below to join or confirm your information for this year. Your information is safe with us, and is only used for Steller related purposes. Tip: when it asks for your students’ teacher or homeroom, choose their advisor. Thank you!

The start of the new school year is quickly approaching and to help you be ready for class registration day we are reposting the schedule and course descriptions for 1st Semester. There are no changes to the schedule or courses just a change in teachers. Steller will have two new teachers on staff this year. Louisa Williams, who just moved to Anchorage yesterday from Texas, will be our new Spanish II teacher. Jazerae Howell, who is also coming to us from the Lower 48, is our new orchestra teacher.
