SOMETHING NEW- Wednesdays At Coffee Klatch (WACK) for ALL Steller Parents, Students and Principal – Wednesday 2/15 7:30-8:30am, in the Steller Staff lounge – As a way to better connect busy parents who might want to share their experiences about various topics, we are trying this forum (things like the college process, participating in sports/classes in other schools, dating, talking about drugs, whatever parents WANT to talk about!) This week, because of the urgency, we will have information available about the looming cuts to Steller and what we can do about it.

IditaZoo(TM) at the Alaska Zoo March 11

This is a great event for all who love dogs, dog mushing, and learning about and celebrating the Alaska state sport! IditaZooâ„¢ Event 2017.  Meet mushers and their sled dogs by joining the Alaska Zoo to celebrate dog mushing, the Alaska state sport! You will learn all about the history of the Iditarod® including interesting facts about Iditarod® checkpoints. Be here Saturday, March 11th, at the Alaska Zoo from Noon to 4pm for IditaZooâ„¢! You can “race” through zoo grounds while playing the checkpoint game, learn some cool facts about dog mushing, view Iditarod® race standings, and get hands-on with equipment used for winter outdoor dog sports. Kids will enjoy a craft station and a special sled dog Storytime program at 2pm. Don’t miss this opportunity to celebrate the Alaska state sport and see some of the animals Iditarod® mushers may see along the trail! Seal of Biliteracy

Do you speak another language? Are you a junior or senior? If so, contact Ashley to earn a Seal of Biliteracy on your diploma. This is a national recognition and a prestigious addition to your credentials. Currently, ASD is able to certify biliteracy in the following languages: ASL, Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Latin, Russian, and Spanish (additional languages tentative to be available by late spring 2017 include: Somali (Maxaa and Maymay), Tagalog, Vietnamese, and Yup’ik). Charles Schulz’s beloved comic comes to life in Clark Gesner’s classic musical, You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown. The whole gang is here: bossy Lucy is hopelessly in love with piano prodigy Schroeder who doesn’t give her the time of day, perfectionist Sally is still mocking blanket-toting Linus, Snoopy is in the doghouse, and “blockhead,” himself, Charlie Brown, is in rare form. Rated G Recommended for K-12 Approx. 120 Minutes

An ongoing feud between the Capulets and the Montagues breaks out again on the streets of Verona. Both sides are warned by Prince Escalus that they must not disturb the peace again, on pain of death. Gifted Mentorship Newsletter/Website Info

Attention Sophomores and Juniors: Would you like to explore a career and earn credit? The Gifted Mentorship Program will begin accepting applications for the 2017-18 school year on March 1st, 2017. You must meet GPA, coursework, and standardized test score requirements to qualify. Students spend 45-60 hours with a mentor in their field of interest and complete various assignments, including a final project. Steller Students & Staff Perform at Anchorage Folk Festival

The Anchorage Folk Festival starts on Thursday, with lots of free workshops and main stage performances at UAA’s Wendy Williamson Auditorium.

Steller students and staff are participating, so don’t miss these shows:

  • Sunday, January 22 4 pm and 4:45 pm – Harrison Sturm in Sturm Troupers and Bologna Sandwich

  • Thursday, January 26 7 pm – Svetlana in the Russian Folk Dance Group Sudarushka

  • Saturday, January 28 3 pm – Katie Scoggin and Mai Wen

  • Sunday, January 29 2 pm – Augustine Hardison and Harrison Sturm in the Sundance Kids
