Prudential Spirit of Community Awards

The deadline is fast approaching for youth volunteers to apply for local, state, and national recognition through the 2018 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards.

This program is a wonderful way to celebrate students for their community service – and to elevate them as models for their peers. This year’s student application deadline is November 7, 2017, and our young volunteers are encouraged to apply. Awards are open to students in grades 5 – 12 who have made meaningful contributions to their communities through volunteer service in the past year. Middle level and high school volunteers are honored in every state, and top honorees earn cash awards and an all-expenses-paid trip with a parent or guardian to Washington, D.C. Qualifying honorees also receive President’s Volunteer Service Awards. The following links provide more details that may be of interest:

It is time to start thinking about winter Intensives. Registration for Intensives will happen during Advisory on October 16th. Students should have their first, second, and third choices picked out. Be sure to make note of the cost of each Intensive and realize fees can either be partially or entirely waived for those with financial needs. Intensive fee forms can be picked up and returned to the office. See Intensive descriptions HERE.

Conferences Week of October 23rd

Hello Steller Parents/Guardians! It’s that time of year again.

Fall Conferences will take place on October 25, 26, and 27. These will be student-led conferences that include the student, parent/guardian(s), and the advisor, but will be led by your child. Our goal is to have 100% attendance so all Steller students have the opportunity to show off their strengths and talk about areas they need to improve. Conferences can be scheduled a number of ways, the best of which is with the district’s online scheduler. Do so by following the steps below:

  1. Go to http://www.asdk12.org/ConferenceScheduling/StudentScheduleStartExt.aspx  This is can be reached by going to the district web page, clicking on Parent conferences on the left, and then on the Middle School conference scheduler;

  2. Choose Steller as the school;

  3. Choose 7th grade! (In order to work the system, all conferences are scheduled as 7th graders. It is the square peg into a round hole thing);

  4. For Team Name, choose your student’s ADVISOR (Conferences will be with the advisor, if you want to meet with classroom teachers, you will need to schedule a meeting outside of the conference dates. Your student’s advisor will have forms to request meetings);

  5. Choose the date you wish to come in; and

  6. Choose your time and continue through the process. You can sign up to receive a reminder email. If you need to cancel your appointment time, you will have to email your advisor.
