Students, each year, there are either close calls or deaths associated with people walking on railroad tracks or photographing them. Please remember it is not legal to be within the corridor around a railroad. Trains often move much faster than they seem to be moving because they are such a large object, and it can take up to a mile for a train to stop. They are deceptively quiet when approaching. Thank you for your attention to this matter. You matter to us.

Next year’s Travel Intensives:
Ride your bike to Denali National Park - Get ready for the biking trip of a lifetime! What is the best way to start the school year? Being able to brag to all of your friends that you biked all the way to Denali National Park on your fall intensive. Join Jen and Mike in this intensive as we bike from Wasilla to Riley Campground in Denali. We will spend a day taking a shuttle into Denali to see amazing views of the mountain as well as seeing all the wildlife. Then enjoy a relaxing train ride back to Anchorage.  If this bike ride seems daunting, don’t worry, we will spend the first week preparing ourselves for the trip by biking around Anchorage and learning about bike safety and maintenance.  Plus you will have all summer to prepare for this intensive!  If you get out and bike a few times a week all summer (building up to riding 20 miles at a time or 2 hours) you will be ready for this trip.  Questions about this intensive?  Come talk to Jen!  We will have an informational meeting early next semester. Â
Monkeys, toucans, and sloths, oh my!  Students have the opportunity to join Danielle and Ashley on a 10-day trip to Costa Rica during next year’s March intensive. We will explore lush tropical rainforests, geologic wonders like volcanoes and waterfalls, and the stunning Pacific coast. Highlights of the trip include visiting the Monteverde Cloud Forest, which has more than a hundred species of mammals, 120 reptiles and amphibians and 2,500 different plants; taking a guided night hike to look for nocturnal animals; rafting through the rainforest and ziplining through the forest canopy; and visiting Mt. Arenal, one of the world’s most active volcanoes, and swimming in the hot springs at its base. Students do not have to be in Spanish to take this intensive, although there will be opportunities for Spanish students to practice their language skills. The cost of the trip will be between $2800 and $3200, depending on how many students enroll. If you’re interested in the Costa Rica intensive, talk to Danielle or Ashley and stay tuned for an announcement about our first trip meeting next semester.
Interested in traveling to New York and Washington D.C. during next year’s August Intensive? We will be visiting museums, historical sites, seeing a Broadway play, and watching a major league baseball game. Stop by and talk to Leigh Anne to find out more.
