Advisory Group Notes

Your basket theme for the Steller Auction needs to be chosen today!  The overall auction theme is Bebop to HipHop:  Music Through the Ages.

There will be a mandatory 9th grade class meeting tomorrow at noon in Danielle’s room. It’s very important that every 9th grader attends and signs up for a job to help with the auction, which is only three weeks away.

Nurse Anne wants you to know that this week is the official start of Red Ribbon week. Wear your ribbons and make a commitment to stay away from drugs.  An Oct 17th report from the National Institute of Drug Abuse reported that, “The rate of prescription painkiller abuse among American youth is 40 percent higher than in previous generations, and it is now the second most common type of illegal drug use after marijuana.”

The decisions you make now will affect you for the reminder of your life. A poorly developed frontal lobe causes adolescents to be inclined to make impulsive decisions without considering the consequences.  Drugs will continue to have adverse effects on you after 25 (when the frontal lobe is more fully developed), however, at least after 25, you will have the frontal lobe development to make healthier decisions about what to use, when to use and how much to use, whether it be alcohol or some other drug. Thank you to those students who attended the drug presentation, for showing respect to the speakers and for asking such intelligent questions.

This is the last reminder for the Blood Drive which is this Wednesday from 11:45am  to 5:15pm. The consent forms are located in the office on the front desk counter top and in Nurse Anne’s office.  If you are 16 or 17, please bring the consent form signed by your parent to Nurse Anne and set up a time for your donation. The drive was scheduled during parent conferences to make it more convenient for parents and staff to donate. Please encourage your parents to participate.
