Advisory Group Announcements

AG Announcements – 9/19/11

Nurse Anne would like anyone interested in being in the Safety Club to contact her. Club duties will include assistance with Red Ribbon week, showing films during lunch on drug abuse prevention, and assorted other activities. The club will meet during Wednesdays at lunch time in her office.

Anne is also looking into teaching basic CPR and may or may not include this part of a safety club volunteer activity. Let her know if you have an interest in helping put together the CPR activity.

Hospice Organization of Anchorage would like about 20 volunteers (or as many as we can get) to put together lantern tops for a ceremony to honor members of Hospice families. The nurse would like to work with anyone interested in folding and cutting these pieces of paper for the lanterns. If we have enough volunteers we could complete them from 2:05 until 3:30 or sooner. Tuesday afternoon would best for the nurse, however she is receptive to any afternoon.  If you are interested contact the nurse. She will have snacks for all who show up. The work can be completed in the conference room (in the office area) or the MPR. She will let you know where.

Steller is going to work with the  Leukemia and Lymphoma Society to raise money for this worthy cause. If anyone is interested in helping Nurse Anne organize this activity please let her know. The campaign is in January, right after winter break, but it is not too early to start planning.

Please let Nurse Anne know if you or your friends have an interest in an adolescent “girls group” to discuss adolescent issues. Discussion topics can include relationships, careers, peer pressure, assertiveness training, dealing with emotions, etc. This group will meet one day a week for an hour for an undetermined number of sessions. It can be on a day convenient for most participants. The nurse is receptive to any ideas you have with this group or any of the volunteer opportunities.  She appreciates your help and looks forward to working with you.

There will be a mandatory 8th grade class meeting tomorrow in Danielle’s room. We need to finalize plans for this Friday’s dance, and we may elect class officers then.

Attention Garden club members: we will be meeting in Danielle’s room today at lunch to discuss this Friday’s harvest and selling at the Farmer’s Market this Saturday. Any student interested may attend.

Students participating in the Banned Books Read-out at Title Wave should confirm with Danielle asap. There will be a meeting this Wednesday at lunch to practice.

PSAT Testing at Steller on October 15th.  Students need to sign up ASAP with $20.00 in the office because there are a limited number of tests available.  If you signed up but didn’t pay…you are not signed up – check with John in the office now.

The SAT test will be administered at Steller on Saturday October 1st.  You can still late register on-line at CollegeBoard.com.  If you have any questions see John.

If anyone has any questions about the Alaska Performance Scholarship, for more information see John.

Many congratulations to our three National Merit Scholarship finalists:  Itzhak Lax, Kaylin Saur and Anna Miller.  Steller actually had 3 of the 22 finalists in the district…very cool.

Yearbook forms are in the office. The price will increase second quarter. Current price is $55.00.  No custom personalization allowed by the publisher post December 31st deadline.  If students wish to have a name/special phrase on a cover, icons, or autograph section they must purchase the book this semester.

Battle of the Books! We now have High school team formed. We are still looking for middle school students who would like to participate. Please sign up at the library!

The deadline to sign up for the dance is tomorrow, Tuesday the 20th at 12:00!

Quarter 1 progress reports are now available on Zangle

Drama will be on MWF from 2:15 to 3:30 and will start on the 28th of September.  Elizabeth Ware will be the drama coach.

Remember that the supplies in the art room come from students who pay an art lab fee.  There’re quite a few who come during lunch, after school, and even during class to use stuff from here.  Ask Lee before using any of the art supplies.
