ASD Gifted Mentorship Program Information and News

The Gifted Mentorship Program is designed for gifted/talented juniors and seniors who are seeking additional academic challenges in the adult workplace.  Students must apply for the program and go through a training process before the program begins.  Students are then paired with a professional in the field of the student’s choice and create an independent study course paired with the program’s requirements.  This program offers a great opportunity to try a career in a professional environment before investing the time and money in higher education.  The mentorship program also looks great on transcripts and resumes, as well as potentially providing excellent and relevant professional references.

The program runs throughout the school year for qualifying juniors and seniors, including a summer school option.  Students can qualify for the program based their GPA,  standardized test scores, teacher recommendations, an interview with coordinator Ms. Lisa Wiley, and/or outstanding leadership, motivation, or community service experience.  Please visit the school district’s website for more information at  www.asdk12.org/projects/gifted

Jean Poulsen visits Steller on Tuesday during lunch in the library and is available after school by appointment to talk about the program with parents and students.  You can also email her at poulsen_jean@asdk12.org
