Reasons why a “Summer Enrichment Program†or “Pre-College Program†during your summer break is more valuable than staying home chilling on the recliner with the remote and a Mountain Dew:
- Chance to visit new places, meet new people, and learn new things
- Discover things you may not have even known existed
- Challenge yourself by getting out of your comfort zone
- Have a good reason, which your parents will understand, for traveling to far away places
- Grow & mature, evolve as a person
- Explore ideas and interests that you are curious about
- Develop your skills in an area that you are already involved in
- Anything you do will look a whole lot better on applications than saying you spent your summer break kicking it watching Jersey Shore and catching up on your sleep.

Find information about: summer programs, community & civic service programs, gap-year opportunities, jobs and internships, etc. Although this list by no means exhausts the possibilities out there, it’s a place to start and maybe get the process started; each of them has a number of unique and exciting summer programs that are available for high school students:
