Planning Your Summer

Reasons why a “Summer Enrichment Program” or “Pre-College Program” during your summer break is more valuable than staying home chilling on the recliner with the remote and a Mountain Dew:

  • Chance to visit new places, meet new people, and learn new things
  • Discover things you may not have even known existed
  • Challenge yourself by getting out of your comfort zone
  • Have a good reason, which your parents will understand, for traveling to far away places
  • Grow & mature, evolve as a person
  • Explore ideas and interests that you are curious about
  • Develop your skills in an area that you are already involved in
  • Anything you do will look a whole lot better on applications than saying you spent your summer break kicking it watching Jersey Shore and catching up on your sleep.

If you’re one of the students thinking of what to do this summer I’ve created a list of web sites / resources you may want to explore.

Find information about: summer programs, community & civic service programs, gap-year opportunities, jobs and internships, etc.  Although this list by no means exhausts the possibilities out there, it’s a place to start and maybe get the process started; each of them has a number of unique and exciting summer programs that are available for high school students:

U Summer

Summer Study

Enrichment Alley

Teen Life

Student Life: Summer Opportunities

So, are you considering stretching and challenging yourself this summer?  If you think you need any help with getting the process started be sure to let me know.
