b)    Chess Club

Whereas chess is a game deeply rooted in American culture,

Whereas chess is academically stimulating for it’s players,

Whereas many students feel the need to exercise their brains outside of the classroom,

Whereas playing chess exercises a student’s ability to plan ahead,

Whereas many students would enjoy the opportunity to play chess on a regular basis,

Whereas many students have expressed interest in joining Chess Club,

Whereas Chess Club would be a positive group of individuals with a common passion,

Whereas learning to play chess is a valuable life skill,

Whereas a set of chess boards and chess pieces are conveniently stored in Bob’s room,

Whereas many students already feel that they are a part of Chess Club even though it does not exist,

Let it be proposed that Chess Club is created.  The teacher sponsor would be Bob.  Chess Club would meet in Bob’s room during lunch.  Chess Club members could meet any day, Monday through Friday, but they would not be required to attend everyday.

-Passed with no opposition.

c)   Art Club

Whereas Art Club is a great opportunity to express creativity,

Whereas Art Club will help promote Steller in a positive and artistic way,

Let it be proposed that Art Club be formed.  The teacher sponsor would be Alayne.  Any students interested in showing any kind of art should join. Art Club is planning on hosting an art exhibit at Steller on the second Friday of every month.  Art shows would be open to the public.  Art Club is currently working on promoting these events through the Anchorage Daily News.

-Passed with no opposition.

d) Art Club- Funding

Whereas Art Club is in need of funds to kick-start its first art show,

Whereas Art Club is planning on raising all future funds on its own,

Let it be proposed that Op-Group give art club $300.00 to launch it’s first

art show.  Any un-used funds would be returned to Op-Group.  The

funding would be used to provide food, drinks, and decor for the first art

show.  Art Club is currently working on asking local businesses to donate

food and drink, and plans on charging an admission fee to raise its own

funds in the future.

-       Sent back to advisory groups to be voted on.

e)     TPC

Whereas TPC had never had the opportunity to run a dance before,

Whereas TPC is filled with technology-loving individuals who could put on a phenomenal dance,

Whereas last year, TPC underwent a significant financial expenditure following the wreckage of its equipment,

Whereas TPC currently had less money than the minimum amount of money that it can have in it’s account and, therefore, is in desperate need of funds,

Whereas TPC would rather raise its own money than beg for it from Op-Group,

Let it be proposed that TPC host the March 18th dance.  Theme is undecided as of yet.

  1. Reports

a)     Staff-

The intensive committee has proposed the following:

Intensives will be capped based on the workload that the teacher(s) originally signed up for the class can handle.

Students may not repeat an intensive within two school years.

Teachers may not teach the same intensive within two school years.

This is to solve the problems of students taking the same intensive semester after semester, staff not stretching themselves to teach a variety of intensives, and un-reasonable numbers in intensive classes. A suggestion box for intensive ideas will be available soon.  This proposal is being brought to Ad-Board for a vote.

b)    Principal-

Discuss in AG’s the concern of stolen property.
