Four Days

Until Steller Secondary Book Fair And Banned Books Read-Out
This Saturday, October 2, Mark Your Calendars!!!

Steller Secondary School and Barnes and Noble Booksellers are celebrating the 29th Annual Banned Books Week by hosting our annual READ-OUT LOUD! Steller students, staff, and celebrity guests will read aloud selections from their favorite previously banned or challenged books like “Catcher in the Rye”, “Harry Potter”, “Fahrenheit 451”, among others.  The event will take place from 1:00-3:00 pm this Saturday, October 2, at Barnes and Noble on Northern Lights.

The Steller community encourages everyone to come out and support our students participating in this event.  Steller is the only school participating, so this is our turn to shine and we would like a great turnout.

The Read-Out Loud is a FREE event in honor of the 29th Annual Banned Books Week. Observed since 1982, Banned Books Week, September 26 – October 3, is an annual event sponsored by the American Library Association’s Office for Intellectual Freedom (OIF). It celebrates the freedom to read and reminds Americans not to take this precious democratic freedom for granted.  The Steller community encourages everyone to come out and support this important event. Don’t miss this opportunity to show your school spirit and hear a book read publicly.

There is still time to sign up to read a short selection of your favorite banned book, see Danielle or Linda for details.

If you don’t want to volunteer to read, please come and support Steller students on that date as well, and get a head start on your holiday shopping as Barnes and Noble is also hosting a book fair for our school on that same day–Saturday, October 2, including all store hours from 9 am through 11 pm.  Steller will receive between 15-30 percent of all purchases made throughout the store, including not only books, music, dvds, and gifts, but their café as well–with one exception.  The caveat is that customers that would like a portion of their purchases to be given back to Steller must say so at the register.

Attached are vouchers[Bookfair Vouchers & Bookfair Voucher Back] to distribute to your extended family and friends.  If you have family members living outside, you may also want to let them know that they can shop on-line during Saturday, October 2 until Tuesday, October 5, and a portion of their purchases will be counted towards Steller-as long as they include our book fair I.D.number 10300259-there is a flyer attached [bookfair2010flyer] delineating the Barnes and Noble website and Steller’s book fair ID number, as a reminder.

If any Steller students or families would be available or interested in coordinating other events outside of the 1-3 pm time frame, such as face painting, students performing musical instruments, dance groups, etc., please contact Linda at Steller.   Any activities are encouraged, because these events would allow students and parents present to remind shoppers that they only need to mention Steller at the register of the café or main desk and a portion of their purchase will be earmarked back to Steller.

Thank you for supporting these events!
