Steller Secondary Book Fair and Banned Books Read-Out

Saturday, October 2nd, Mark Your Calendars!!!

This year Barnes and Noble on Northern Lights has graciously offered to host our 5th Annual Banned Books Read-Out on Saturday, October 2, 2010 from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm.

We are looking for Steller students in all grades to participate and read a short selection of their favorite banned book during celebration.   A few short practices will be held prior to this event.  See Linda or Danielle as soon as possible to sign up or for more info!

If you don’t want to volunteer to read, please come and support Steller students on that date as well, and get a head start on your holiday shopping as Barnes and Noble has graciously offered to host a book fair for our school on that same day–Saturday, October 2, including all store hours from 9 am through 11 pm, on Saturday, October 2!  Depending on monies raised, Steller will receive between 15-30 percent of all purchases made throughout the store, including not only books, music, dvds, and gifts, but their café as well–with one exception.  The caveat is that customers that would like a portion of their purchases to be given back to Steller must say so at the register.

Reminders in the store may ONLY be announced from the microphone in the presentation area, as Barnes and Noble has a strict corporate policy which forbids solicitation in the store, again, with the exception of periodic announcements from the presentation area.

Attached are vouchers to distribute to your extended family and friends.

If you have family members living outside, you may also want to let them know that they can shop on-line during Saturday, October 2 until Tuesday, October 5, and a portion of their purchases will be counted towards Steller-as long as they include our book fair I.D.number 10300259-there is a flyer attached delineating the Barnes and Noble website and Steller’s book fair ID number, as a reminder.

If any Steller students or families would be available or interested in coordinating other events outside of the 1-3 pm time frame, such as face painting, students performing musical instruments, dance groups, etc., please contact Linda at Steller.   Any activities are encouraged, because these events would allow students and parents present to remind shoppers that they only need to mention Steller at the register of the café or main desk and a portion of their purchase will be earmarked back to Steller.

The Steller community encourages everyone to come out and support our school by participating in this event.  Steller is the only school participating in both the Banned Books Read Out and the Book Fair, so this is our turn to shine and we would like a great turnout.

Thank you!

Linda
