7th and 8th grade Visual Arts students created posters for annual Peace Poster contest.  Congratulations to Anna G. for her winning poster! Everyone is invited to see the posters in the MPR for the next several days.  A lot of work went into them and they express some very nice views on the theme, Our World, Our Future.  Take a moment and take a look today!

Belize Students:  Please go to Danelle’s room during Intensive Registration; there will be a meeting regarding travel to Belize.  Any information that isn’t covered at this meeting will be covered at a meeting on Wednesday at 12 pm in Danelle’s room.  Please bring your completed Belize homework questions with you.  Reminder:  All paperwork is due on Tuesday, Nov. 5th.

The P.O.W.E.R. group who were here in September to talk about drugs will be back next week, November 11th during advisory. They will give a presentation specifically on Marijuana. The presentation will begin at 10:15 and end at 10:45. If your adviser will allow you to participate, please plan to be ready to start at that time. Have your questions ready for them.

An early reminder that on the last day before Thanksgiving break, Wed, Nov.  27th the school will close at 3pm.  Please plan accordingly.

Remember, advisory group baskets or donations are due next Monday, November 11.  Make sure that you have your theme or idea together today.  The advisory donations bring in a large amount of money for the auction and parent group likes to spend that money on projects that directly benefit the students like scholarships, funding peer-taughts or passages, Souper Steller, and funding some of the great ideas that came out of the All Community Meeting.  Make Steller a better place by helping with your advisory group donation!  And plan to come to the auction!

Poetry Out Loud is a national poetry recitation contest that empowers students to express themselves through poetry. Steller will be holding a school wide competition on November 25th at lunch time.  If you would like to participate or would like more information please email vanhemert_ashley@asdk12.org or visit Ashley during lunch.  The winner of our school wide competition will compete at the Anchorage city wide competition, and that winner will go to the state competition in Juneau.  This is a great opportunity to express yourself and potentially garner recognition and scholarships for your talents.  You can also check out the Poetry Out Loud website for more information. http://www.poetryoutloud.org/
