Our school is participating in the Salmon Tank Project this year. Â This is made possible through an outreach and education grant for STEM and in conjunction with the Alaska Department of Fish & Game. Â The purpose of the program is to teach students about conservation, restoration, and sustainability of healthy Pacific salmon populations.
My 4th hour Life Science (7-8) will be studying the salmon life cycle and releasing the frye (hopefully) in the spring. Â Our tank was set up in my classroom with the help of Mike, Philip, my husband, Mike, and one of our students, Jin. Â Many thanks to those who helped make the tank possible.
You are all welcome to come by and view the salmon eggs; they should hatch sometime after winter break.
