Advisory Group Announcements for 1/22/13

AG Announcements – 1/22/13

  •  There will be a 7th grade class meeting in Jen’s room at noon today.
  •  The Talent Show is scheduled for Friday, February 1 from 7 – 9 pm.  Auditions will be held on Thursday, Jan. 24 at lunch and after school in the MPR.  Please see Danelle or Lee if for questions.
  •  Sophomores: We need parents to chaperone our February dance. The dance is on the 8th and we need parents from 7-9 and 9-11. Please ask at home and let Leigh Anne know ASAP.
  •  The parents who organize Souper Steller are requesting that more students help out in the kitchen on Thursday afternoons.  Even if your advisory is not assigned to help this week, you can volunteer your time. As little as 30 minutes can make a difference. You are encouraged to please let Jennifer Jones, Alyse Galvin or Victoria Weindel know that you will be there so they can count on your assistance and please, please show up if you have said you will. If the parents who organize Souper Steller do not have more student assistance, these wonderful meals on Fridays will go away. Do your part to help parents who have done so much to give us these tasty home cooked meals. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn about food preparation and to share in the camaraderie of your peers and SUPER nice adults!
  •  Svetlana and Becky are preparing for our next large book order. Please let us know which books in particular you would like us to add to our shelves. We are soliciting feedback on what is your favorite piece of literature and we want to hear from you as soon as possible. Fiction or nonfiction, we like books that come in all genres, shapes and sizes! Please write down your suggestions on the poster which is located outside of the library. Your help is greatly appreciated.
  •  Senior portraits and senior pages are post due.  Please submit your pictures in digital form either via email jackson_lana@asdk12.org or provide a CD/ thumb drive. Please note that half page for the senior page will be provided free of charge. You may choose to purchase a full page for $100.00.
  •  Senior full pages are limited. If you have not already purchased a senior full page (and intend to) please do so now, before we run out.

  • District Middle School Battle of the book is scheduled on January 30. This week we are going have two meetings every week: one on Tuesday and one on Friday.  Meetings are at lunch in a library.
  • We are looking for students who are excited and positive about the education and experience that that they are receiving at Steller who would be willing to do a recruitment presentation at their previous grade schools.  There will be a training and information meeting on Wednesday at noon in the MPR.  Lunch will be provided so please come early to get your food and be ready to give your input about the most important aspects of a Steller education promptly at twelve.
  • We plan to begin going out to the schools next week.  We are specifically looking for students from the following schools:  Central Science, Chugach Optional, Bowman Optional, Aquarian Charter,  Eagle River Optional, North Star, and Denali Montessori.  It is important that we take both middle school and high school representatives.  If you attended another school that you think would also appreciate a visit you can sign up and we will consider a visit if time in the recruitment season allows.
  • For Advisors:  We need to know name, grade, former grade school, student phone number/email, parent phone number/email.  Information should be turned in to John.
  • For this week only homework lab will run on Wed, Thurs, and Fri.
  • Movie Wednesdays returns tomorrow! The fundraiser will feature “Monster’s Inc.” in Bob’s room. The movie is free, but you can donate to help Clare House through buying snacks and drinks.
  • Temple of the Bean…after several attempts we are most definitely, absolutely positively, without a doubt having our Training Meeting this Wednesday.  You can either come during lunch, or after school,  to the Conference Room ; you choose, either time is fine…just remember this is a mandatory meeting and individuals who don’t come may be taken off the schedule.
  • Any students who would like to participate in our “School Visits” to neighboring elementary schools and help recruit future Stellerites…come to the office for more information.
