Welcome
What This Site Is
This website is a student “home base” of sorts. In conjunction with the general Steller Secondary School website and the Steller Flash announcements, this is a place for Steller students to go to find information about the school, upcoming events, and committee meetings. It’s a place for students to show off their extraordinary work with pride and an avenue for sharing this work with the Steller community. It’s the place to go when you can’t remember when the next Advisory Board meeting is or what day the dance is this month. It’s a place to find information to help you to develop your future. It’s a community resource – and a work in progress.
What This Site Is Not
The Steller student website is not a blog to post announcements. All announcements for the Steller community will continue to be handled through the Steller Flash. Click the Flash button above to go there and enter your e-mail to receive these announcements. This website is not a forum to promote or complain about happenings at Steller.
So How Did This Get Here, Anyway?
This site has been a volunteer effort by a couple of Students and Parents who were able to spend their time for the benefit of the Steller community. It is managed entirely by students with a little assistance from staff and parents when needed.
How Do I Contribute Information?
To contribute to the Steller Student Website, just click on the “Contact Us” link in the right column or e-mail webmaster@stellerschool712.org, type your article or suggestion into the body of the e-mail, proofread, and click send. It will go to all of the volunteer webmasters. The first person to see it will review it and verify that it is appropriate to post, and reflects positively on Steller. Please make sure your information is accurate and written as you want it to appear. We edit for spelling and will check with staff if we notice something that doesn’t sound quite right.
If you are sending announcements to be published in the Flash, it takes approximately 24 hours for Feedburner to send notices to parents and students so don’t wait until the last minute. Ideally we would receive the first notice at least two weeks before an event and a reminder notice three days prior.
How do I make a site like this?
We used a service called Dreamhost to register our name (stellerschool712.org) and receive server space. The website is run with an open-source blogging platform called WordPress, which you can find out about at wordpress.org.
